’Busco takes on Bishop Luers ... again

November 1, 2012

FORT WAYNE — Churubusco’s football team is seeking revenge after a frustrating 34-7 loss last season in the sectional title game.

The Knights come into this year’s sectional final game with an uncharacteristic 7-4 record, after only posting two losses from 2010-11.

Luers has had a difficult season, with the hype around the firing of coach Matt Lindsay mid-season due to a scandal involving inappropriate video clips on his computer.

Since Lindsay left the field Sept. 13, the Knights have lost two games, including a forfeit to Wayne High School.

While both teams have very different schedules, the schools have one common opponent — Eastside.

Bishop Luers topped the Blazers last week, 42-7, while Churubusco handed Eastside its only shut-out of the season, 54-0, on Sept. 7.

The Eagles posted four shut-outs in a row to Northeast Corner Conference teams and went undefeated in the NECC to take the conference title.

But the NECC, with two Class 1A teams, three Class 2A and two Class 3A school is no match to Luers’ Summit Athletic Conference.

The Knights have faced five Class 5A teams, beat Bishop Dwenger, 58-21, and doesn’t have a Class 2A team on their schedule until sectional play.
Luers shut-out Concordia and beat competitive Fort Wayne teams such as Northrop and South Side.

After beating ’Busco last year, the Knights went on to win the state title for the third year in a row.

Game time is 7 p.m. at Bishop Luers Friday.
