Lady Eagles drop game to Lakers

FREMONT — Churubusco’s softball fell in a NECC Tournament game Thursday to Lakeland.

The Lady Lakers beat the Lady Eagles 6-4.

Offensively, ‘Busco was able to bang out seven hits on the night. Kasey Gibson led with a 3-for-4 stint at the plate.

Hannah Richards crossed the plate twice for the Lady Eagles as well. Other Lady Eagles with hits included Kristen Krill, Richards, Kellary Crabil and Lacey Pulley.

Courtney Luttmann was the losing pitcher for ‘Busco, with Krill tossing relief innings as well.

The defeat drops the team to 3-4 on the season. Lakeland is now 5-2.

Fremont defeats Churubusco tennis

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s girls tennis team fell to visiting Fremont Thursday.

Fremont swept all five varsity matches and all five JV matches, but fell in a reserve match.

In that reserve doubles contest, ‘Busco’s Kayleen Mitchell and Anna Bulmahn defeated Regina Prise and Jackie Weisenfelder of Fremont, 6-0.

‘Busco’s Cheyenne Conner, Aubrey Gierscher and Madi Cook all fell in varsity singles play. The varsity doubles pairs of Liz Brooks-Smyser and Nikki Esslinger and Aaliyah Hensinger and Camille Cseri also lost in their matches.

JV-wise, Mitchell and Buhmahn both fell in singles matches, as did Maggie Kitt for ‘Busco.

In doubles play, Olivia Knight and Brittney Shambaugh lost to their Fremont foes, as did the other doubles pair of Morgan Gresley and Kayla Mascho.

Churubusco next plays Westview tonight.
