’Busco netters drop contest

September 20, 2013

TOPEKA — Churubusco’s volleyball team hit the road to take on the first-place team in the Northeast Corner Conference Thursday, and fell in three games.

The Lady Eagles gave Westview all it could handle in the first set, but the Lady Warriors held on to win the match — 25-23, 25-13 and 25-12.

In the first game, Churubusco jumped out to an early lead.

Lady Eagle Head Volleyball Coach Trinda Goings said her squad was able to take command early and go up 14-8.

A key timeout called by Westview shifted momentum the other direction. The host Lady Warriors were able to scratch and chip away at the ’Busco lead, and the score was tied at 19.

From that point, Westview leaped forward and captured the advantage. The Lady Warriors were able to finish off the set at 25-23.
