’Busco loses NECC opener on the road

GOSHEN — Churubusco’s girls basketball team had a rough start to its Northeast Corner Conference schedule for 2013-14.

The Lady Eagles lost at Fairifield, 60-24.

The defeat drops ’Busco to 1-3 on the year, and 0-1 in the conference.

For the Lady Falcons, it was their first game of the season overall, putting them at 1-0 to start the campaign.

Fairfield’s Jenny Kiper led all scorers with 24 points overall. Teammate Katie Yates chipped in nine.

Churubusco was led by Shelby Brockman, Alisha Farner and Montanta Martin with six each.

Martin also paced the Lady Eagles in rebounds with six and steals with two.

Churubusco will travel to Woodlan Tuesday and will return home Friday, Nov. 29, to welcome Eastside for its second NECC clash of the season.
