CHURUBUSCO — The Lady Eagles, playing in a consolation game as part of the Northeast Corner Conference Basketball Tournament, picked up their seventh straight loss to visiting Prairie Heights Thursday, 61-43.
‘Busco’s starting five produced only six points in the first quarter; the team scored just one basket, earning four points from the free-throw line.
Lady Panther Tressa Terry also scored six in the first quarter, part of her game-high 17.
Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, Terry had four teammates on the floor with her. Emily Dunne, Logan Penick and Shawna Carbone all scored, while Kayla Feeney hit from beyond the arc to give Prairie Heights a 15-6 lead after the first period.
Heather Monk picked up four of her eight points in the second quarter, which placed her in a three-way tie for the team lead in scoring.
Kristine Bechtold, Jacey Keener, Savannah Labenz and Montana Martin all chipped in buckets in the period.
The Lady Eagles also tossed one in from the charity stripe, outscoring the Lady Panthers 13-8 to pull within four, 23-19, heading into the locker room at halftime.
In the fourth, Bechtold scored four of the opening seven points to get ‘Busco within seven. However, Prairie Heights hit 5-of-6 frsom the line, converted two points off a Feeney steal and Terry finished the scoring run with another tre’ to build a 15-point lead with four minutes remaining.
Thanks to successful foul shots and a jumper from Blake, the Lady Eagles managed to remain within 15 points of the Lady Panthers until Allison Young capitalized on a fast break, and Terry picked up a 3-point play for an 18-point lead. The game ended by that margin, 61-43.
‘Busco falls to 4-12 for the season and is back in action next Friday when it visits Angola, which beat them by 40 points last week.View more articles in:
