’Busco completes year one under Beucler

March 18, 2014

Churubusco’s Montana Martin goes up for a shot against Blackhawk Christian.

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s girls basketball team started the 2013-14 year with a new head coach who vowed to change the fortunes of the program.

Dustin Beucler took over a program that had not had a winning season for 10 years. While the Lady Eagles did not attain a winning mark in 2013-14 (9-13), there were several marks of progress.

“There were a lot of learning experiences, little things,” Beucler said “We. a lot of close games early on. We learned a lot, and I hope it carries over.”

At 4-6, ’Busco finished in a tie for seventh place in the Northeast Corner Conference.

Beucler hopes the Lady Eagles, who will return nearly the entire team, will work hard in the off-season to reach closer toward their goals.
“We can use some of it as motivation for the summer,” he said. “We can get ready, put in the time, and work hard. We just need to keep at it, as a team. We’re deep, and we’re only losing one (player).”
