’Busco, Col. City to compete at state: Grapplers earn trip to next year’s championship

June 5, 2014

It may be months away, but officials have already chosen which teams made the cut for the Indiana State Team Wrestling Finals — including two local squads.

Columbia City and Churubusco were selected by the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA) to compete against the top teams in the state in January.

Since the IHSAA team state tournament was dissolved three years ago, the ISHWCA created its own version of team state finals, on an invite-only basis.

Next season’s meet will be held January 3 at Ball State University in Muncie.

For the past two years, the meet has been held at Westfield High School, in cramped conditions for both teams and spectators.

Cardinal Fieldhouse is expected to better accommodate grapplers and their fans.
