COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Consolidated School Board of School Trustees approved the purchase of five new buses for the district at Monday’s meeting.
Total cost for the five buses was $339,698. There were three Starcraft activity buses purchased for $132,108 and two 78-passenger buses purchased for $207,590. The 78-passenger buses replace two 72-passenger buses that were 13 years old, and the three activity buses that were replaced were either 14 or 12 years old. Buses are not allowed to be traded in until they are at least 12 years old.
Although the buses being replaced were of the correct age, they were not the oldest ones in the system.
In other business, the board heard from superintendent Dr. Pat O’Connor on the attendance policy in the district and also from Jennifer Reiff, CCHS principal; Lyle Kuhmichel, CCHS assistant principal; Kyle Nelson, CCHS dean of students and Brady Mullet, Eagle Tech Academy principal, on the academic success for students at those two buildings. The board also updated some of its internal policies.
The next meeting for the WCCS Board of Trustees will be a work session Monday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m.
