BREAKING NEWS: SGCS Superintendent steps down

CHURUBUSCO — Smith-Green Community Schools is on a search to find a new superintendent and a high school principal.
Steve Darnell, superintendent, has tendered his resignation but the school board heard it off record and the staff of SGCS has received an e-mail from him stating his last day is June 29.
“I have enjoyed my time at Smith-Green Community Schools these past three years,” said Darnell.
“With a strategic plan in place and building improvements scheduled, the district is on a solid path for student learning and achievement. Much has been accomplished as we have all worked to improve learning for students.
“I appreciate the opportunity I have had to be a part of a team that focuses on superior schools in a supportive community. It is time, however, for me to leave the district. I am resigning effective June 29 for other employment. Thanks to all for the opportunity to serve students, teachers, parents and the community. I wish you the best,” concluded Darnell.

He has accepted the position as superintendent of East Washington School Corporation in Pekin, Ind.
The board will accept his resignation on July 9 during its regular meeting.
