BODY FOUND IN WHITLEY COUNTY: Police seeking identity of man discovered in woods

May 9, 2013

WHITLEY COUNTY — The investigation continues after a body was found in a wooded area in Whitley County Wednesday night.

Authorities suspect foul play after a man was found dead on County Road 800 East (County Line Road) north of Old Trail Road.

Whitley County Coroner Randy Dellinger said the body had been there for a while, and was found face down in the woods.

The probe, headed by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Indiana State Police, assisted by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, is ongoing at this time.

An autopsy was conducted this morning by a forensic center, as Dellinger said there were no obvious signs of how the man died.

“At this time, investigators are working to determine the man’s identity, where he lived, how he came to be where he was discovered, and most importantly, the cause and manner of his death,” Indiana State Police Spokesperson Ron Galaviz said in a press release early Friday morning. “The autopsy will hopefully shed some answers into the man’s demise.”

The man was discovered just after 8 p.m. Wednesday by a Whitley County property owner.

Investigators are continuing to sift through missing persons reports and following up on information, but are seeking tips from the public. Galaviz asks anyone with information that may help investigators with the case to call 432-8661 or 800-552-0976.
