COLUMBIA CITY — A legend in Columbia City’s boys basketball was present at the Eagles’ game against Northrop Saturday.

Bill Schwarz, a 1960 graduate and CCHS basketball’s all-time leading scorer, traveled to the Donald S. Weeks gymnasium from his home in Chicago for Columbia City’s senior night.

The Eagles’ senior night had special meaning, as two Columbia City players are the closest to Schwarz’s record that any hoopster has been since 1977.

“I really don’t care that much about the amount of points scored,” Schwarz said. “What I’m really liking is the fact that these kids are well versed in the meaning of the game. Every one of them is pleasant. There’s no egos involved.

“They’re good in the classroom, they’re good peers and they’re good people. That’s what it’s all about.”
