COLUMBIA CITY — Betty Jean Walter, 85, of Columbia City, died at 2 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Parkview Whitley Hospital where she had been a patient since Nov. 14.
She was born June 4, 1926, in Noble County, a daughter of Guy and Veneita (Earmick) Strouse.
Her formative years were spent on a farm off Ind. 9 near Chain-O-Lakes State Park.
She graduated from Wolf Lake High School.
On May 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to John M. “Jack” Walter. They always made their home in Columbia City.
Her memberships include Tri-Lakes Baptist Church.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 66 years, Jack; three children, Sue (Bruce) Miller, Sally Gerdes and John G. Walter, all of Fort Wayne; and two grandchildren, Joy Miller and Ehren (Amanda) Gerdes.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Fairweather.
The memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Preferred memorials are to the Humane Society of Whitley County.
