Bernard Trombley, 79
Bernard H. Trombley, 79, of Columbia City, died Tuesday evening, July 23, 2013 at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born June 27, 1934, in Sault Ste Marie, Mich., a son of Orville and Helena (McGuire) Trombley. His formative years were spent in Sault Ste Marie.
On June 26, 1954, he was united in marriage to Augustina J. Vigneaux. They made their home in Sault Ste Marie for two years then they moved to Fort Wayne.
In 1957, they moved to Bear Lake, Noble County and in 1995 to Columbia City.
Self-employed, he was the owner operator of Trombleyâ€™s Septic Service and A&B Construction. He retired in 1982.
He enjoyed raising and training pulling ponies. He participated in pony pulls throughout the area.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 59 years, Augustina; eight children, Judy M. (Roger) Hartman of Columbia City, Ina (William) Martz of Nappanee, Laurie M. Trombley of Columbia City, Connie S. (Scott Gilmore) Trombley of Wichita Falls, Texas, Tina M. Trombley of Columbia City, Tammy S. (Doug Emmel) Watts of Columbia City, Paul J. Trombley of Columbia City and Tracy M. (Todd Reed) Stephens of Columbia City; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren: a daughter-in-law, Myong Trombley of Lansing, Kan. and a sister, Deloras (Larry) Wolfgang of Sault Ste Marie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bernard H. Trombley II; a brother, Alford Trombley; a sister, Phyllis Black; a son-in-law, Craig Conner; a grandchild and a great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Interment will be at a later date in the Christian Chapel Cemetery at Merriam.
