CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s baseball team had historic individual efforts from some of its players this season.

However, it was in the classroom where these Eagles excelled, not just the ball diamond.

Senior captains Jay Petrie and Chandler Brown were named Academic All-State from Churubusco. Junior Brent Simmons was named Class 2A All-State honorable mention.

Eagle Baseball Head Coach Mark Grove said the leadership of the two captains will be missed.

“They are good kids who showed good leadership,” he said. “They will be missed for the way they led the younger players.”

Of Simmons, Grove said he hopes it is the beginning of more to come.

“He had a good year,” Grove said. “Hopefully next year he can take it to an even higher level.”

The athletes themselves were proud of their accomplishments.
