Ann Akpabio, 66

Ann G. Akpabio, 66, of Columbia City died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1947, and became the adopted daughter of DeWitt and Phyllis (Sheets) Schrader.
She spent her formative years in Washington Township. She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1965 and went on to become a registered nurse in 1968.
She started her work career with the American Red Cross in Fort Wayne and later transferred to Boston, Mass.
She then took a foreign assignment, moving to Nigeria where she worked for seven years. She then returned to Columbia City and the American Red Cross of Fort Wayne
She enjoyed her family and friends and had a special fondness for her grandson, Evan.
She is survived by her son, Uwem (Melissa) Akpabio, Fort Wayne, and her two and a half year old grandson, Evan.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Schrader.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation two hours prior. The burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
