Allen Fugate, 86, of Washington Township, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at his home. He was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Jackson, Breathitt County, Kentucky a son of George and Karsan (Miller) Fugate.
His formative years were spent in Kentucky where he completed his education.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. On April 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to Clara Ellen Hawn. They always made their home on the same farm in Washington Township. Mrs. Fugate died Jan. 28, 2010.
A farmer, he also worked for D & C Construction for 33 years and operated back hoe from 1986 until 2009.
He attended Sugar Creek Church of the Nazarene. Surviving relatives include a son and a daughter, LeRoy Allen (Donna) Fugate of South Whitley and Kathryn Louise (Jerry) Ray of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great- grandchildren; and special friend, Sally Snodgrass of Columbia City.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Fugate, Alfred Fugate and Clay Fugate; and four sisters, Susie Fugate, Haney Kroft, Flenna Mae Miller and Amy Clemmons.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Nolt Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
