$2.2 million project: Whitley, Allen County to meet regarding its county line intersection

November 23, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — In the near future, Whitley County’s Commissioners will be meeting with Allen County Commissioners to hear what they have to say about a possible road project — coinciding with the county line.

The estimated $2.2 million project would move part of East CR 900 S., in Whitley County, to connect with Liberty Mills in Allen County.

“Those who want it will tell you the benefit is it’s a dangerous intersection, and we need to cure that,” said Whitley County Commissioner Don Amber.

While Amber said the project is ideal, in his approximately 30 years as a paramedic for Whitley County EMS, he does not remember working an accident at that location.

“It will cost our county $101,000 and Allen County $340,000 to do it,” said Amber. “We will listen to what Allen County has to say and make a decision based on what we think is best for the county.”
