HUNTERTOWN â€” Eleven Whitley County wrestlers cleared the second hurdle on the way to a possible individual wrestling state championship.
Columbia City led the way, advancing six of its seven Carroll Regional qualifiers to next Saturdayâ€™s Fort Wayne Semi-State. Churubusco will have four wrestlers in semi-state competition, while Whitko advanced one wrestler.
Columbia City took third as a team, being nudged out of second in the last bout of the day by Leo, the New Haven sectional champion.
Carroll took first with 140 points, with Leo taking second at 92, and the Eagles placed third with 89.5. Leo brought 11 wrestlers into the regional as compared to the Eaglesâ€™ seven.
Columbia Cityâ€™s Tristin Anglin brought home the lone regional championship for a Whitley County wrestler by capturing first in the 182-pound weight class.
Anglin scored a 13-5 first-round major decision over Leoâ€™s Wally Grinager, and pinned Churubuscoâ€™s Brayden Shively at the 3:35 mark of the semifinals. In the finals, Anglin went up against Carrollâ€™s Ryan Collins.
