BATTER UP: Diamond Girls warm up with batting practice

The Columbia City Diamond Girls warm up their bats before their final game of the summer season at the City Slam Tournament Saturday at Morsches Park. The event, hosted by the Columbia City Park Department’s Softball Board, had 10 teams from around the area.

CONFERENCE PLAY: Carroll takes down Lady Eagles

COLUMBIA CITY — After an impressive win over Warsaw Monday afternoon, Columbia City’s girls golf team returned to its home course Tuesday evening to host Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Carroll. Though the Lady Eagles posted their best score of the season so far, the NHC powerhouse Lady Chargers took a 185-196 victory at Eagle Glen Golf Course.

SOGGY START: Lady Eagles grab big win over Warsaw

WINONA LAKE — Columbia City’s girls golf team traveled to Stonehenge Golf Club, historically known to trip up the Lady Eagles, to beat Warsaw 202-206 on a soggy Monday afternoon. After a rain delay, the teams took the course to improve their season record to 2-1.

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s girls golf team picked up its first win of the season Thursday, beating Northrop at Eagle Glen, 200-211. Lady Eagles Athena Arnold and Abby Polanco led the team to the win, with impressive improvements from the team’s loss in the opening match against Wawasee Tuesday.

Two Columbia City 8th graders were out practicing for the upcoming football season at DeVol field Wednesday with their amateur instructor, a Churubusco High School student. From left: Ethan Garner, 13; Andrew Garner, 14; and their ‘coach’ 17-year old Dylan Park. Ethan is practicing for the positions of middle linebacker and quarterback; Andrew is hoping to play as a free safety or strong safety. Park is taking a year off of playing for Churubusco, having played tight end and safety last year.
