COLUMBIA CITY â€” Saturday morning showed bright and sunny, as the Columbia City boysâ€™ soccer team played host to Huntington North. Huntington junior Zach Baldridge proved to be a massive pain in the side, as he tallied five of the visitorsâ€™ scores in a 6-1 Viking victory.
CHURUBUSCO â€” The Churubusco Eagles continued their game against the Garrett Railroaders Saturday at 3 p.m. at home after it was postponed due to thunderstorms Friday night. The game ended with final score of 29-7. The Eagles were hard-pressed to find a consistent rushing game throughout the third quarter.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Friday nightâ€™s lightning postponement of Whitkoâ€™s football game didnâ€™t break the Wildcatsâ€™ concentration when it resumed Saturday afternoon. Whitko held on to its 7-0 lead to win its Three Rivers Conference opener over Southwood. With the game delayed with four minutes left in the third quarter, and Whitko holding a 7-0 lead, grid action resumed at 5 p.m. Saturday â€” without much more offensive action.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” When the football game was postponed by weather Friday night, the Eagles had just scored taking a 15-7 lead and looked to be in control. Less than 20 hours later when the game resumed, the tables had turned completely as the Eagle offense went flat, and miscues hurt several offensive opportunities. The Bellmont offense gained more yardage in their first drive than they had the whole first half Friday night.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” The Concordia Lady Cadet volleyball team came into the Donald S. Weeks gymnasium sporting four players at 6-feet-tall or better and carrying a No. 6 state ranking. The Columbia City Lady Eagles, with only two players taller than 5-foot-9, hung with the Cadets.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Whitkoâ€™s Lady Wildcats volleyball team traveled to North Miami Thursday to sweep the Warriors in straight sets. Match leaders for the series were Delaney Ray with eight kills; Elaine Warner with 22 assists and four aces; and Tressa Keim with 22 digs.
NORTH MANCHESTER â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s boys soccer team picked up an exciting win at Manchester High School Thursday night. Eagle Drake DeWitt scored in the first 10 minutes to start Columbia City out with the lead. Manchester answered midway through the half to tie the score at 1.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Churubuscoâ€™s boys tennis team has picked up a win and a loss this week.
Tuesday, the Eagles beat Central Noble in a close, 3-2, match.
Churubusco was led by its singles players, Luke Lillmars, Landon Lillmars and Derek Bowyer.
