Wildcats pummel Argos ... twice

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team only played 10 total innings in a double header in South Whitley Saturday.

The games weren’t cut short due to weather, but the Wildcats 10-run-ruled Argos in the fifth inning of both games, defeating the Dragons with crushing 22-2 and 14-0 wins.

Whitko’s Avery Robbins had 10 RBIs, four runs and three stolen bases in 10 innings.

Ethan Nicodemus also had a stand-out performance, pitching the first three innings of the opening game with four strikeouts and no runs. In the second game, he scored four runs, had four RBIs and three stolen bases.

Eagles fall to defending state champs

Columbia City’s baseball team started the season with two wins. Below, Jacob Johnson takes a swing at Concordia. The Eagles won 17-8 over the Cadets. Churubusco falls to Oak Hill; preps for Carroll

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s baseball team traveled to Oak Hill and lost Thursday night, 5-0.

With several players out on spring break, Eagle Head Coach Mark Grove said the team was short-handed.

“Much of the team wasn’t in town,” Grove said. “That should also make it tough tonight when we travel to Carroll.”

Carroll has won several state baseball titles in the last five years.

Oak Hill picked up its five runs gradually throughout the game, with one in the first inning, one in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Columbia City’s scholars

Columbia City seniors Brandon Gay and Matt Rethlake were named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Honorable Mention team.

Also garnishing honors from the IBCA were juniors Drew Benedict and Derek Hinen, receiving All-State Underclassmen Honorable Mention honors.

Junior Lady Eagles place 2nd in tourney

Columbia City’s 4th-grade Junior Lady Eagles competed in a tournament at Norwell High School. The team went 3-1 for the day and placed second. The Pierceton Elementary fourth and fifth grade girls recently completed their basketball season. ’Busco boys, C.C. girls win county meet

COLUMBIA CITY — Churubusco’s boys and Columbia City’s girls won the Eel River Rivalry track meet Thursday night at Columbia City.

Churubusco won the boys meet by 17 points over Whitko and 23 points over Columbia City (69-52-46).

Columbia City’s girls defeated Churubusco by 13 points and Whitko by 33 (71-58-38).
