’BUSCO BASEBALL WINS: Eagles improve record to 14-6

WOODBURN ­— Churubusco’s baseball team ran its record to 14-6 with a 7-4 win over Woodlan in a game played on the Warriors’ field Monday evening.

Churubusco jumped out to a lead, pushing across three runs in the top of the first inning.

Whitko runs away to 11-1 win

SOUTH WHITLEY — There have been times this season when the Whitko Lady Wildcats softball team has let up on opponents after a big lead.

Monday was not one of those games. The Lady ’Cats kept their foot on the gas the entire game and the offense powered Whitko to an 11-1 win over Three Rivers Conference opponent Southwood.

SOUTH WHITLEY — A late surge from West Noble came up short and Whitko’s baseball team earned its 17th win of the season Monday, 5-3.

Tanner Gaff hit a solo shot over the fence in the first to start the game.

13 to 6: Lady Eagle softball slugs Norwell

COLUMBIA CITY — In a game shortened to five innings, Columbia City’s Lady Eagle softball team used the long ball to down visiting Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Norwell 13-6 Monday evening.

Every time the visiting Lady Knights scored, the Lady Eagles responded with offensive output of their own.

TAKING THIRD: Eagles golf at Zionsville

ZIONSVILLE — Columbia City’s golf team placed third in the prestigious Dave Sollman Invitational at Zionsville, downing ranked teams in the process.

The Eagles, ranked No. 15 in the latest coaches’ poll shot a 312, behind only No. 3-ranked Westfield’s 297, and No. 1-ranked Center Grove which shot a 302. The Eagles placed ahead of No. 2-Ranked Carmel’s 318 and No. 6-ranked Zionsville in the 17-team tournament.

CONFERENCE CHAMPS: Churubusco boys track wins Northeast Corner Conference title

ANGOLA — Churubusco’s boys track team traveled to Angola and came home with the Northeast Corner Conference crown.

The boys blew away their opponents, scoring 28.5 more points than the second-best team, Fairfield, to take the win.

Whitko rallies to beat Col. City, 9-8

SOUTH WHITLEY — Friday night was one of the most competitive games played between Whitko’s and Columbia City’s baseball teams.

The Eagles led the entire game only to see the Wildcats score in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 9-8 victory.

Columbia City scored three runs in the top of the seventh to earn what seemed like a safe 8-5 lead.

Whitko took advantage of a throwing error by the Eagles to score Zach Snep and Tanner Gaff.

Drew Bradford followed that with a single to bring in Hunter Sroufe.

O’Dell signs to play football

Drew O’Dell, Columbia City senior, signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.

ISMS: Golfers place second

COLUMBIA CITY — Indian Springs Middle School hosted its annual invitational golf tournament Saturday at Eagle Glen Golf Course. Indian Springs’ girls team placed second, losing in a tiebreaker.

Indian Springs shot a 273 as a team to tie for first in the five-team tournament, but took second on a tiebreaker.

ROAD MATCHES: ’Busco tennis splits

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s Lady Eagle tennis team split a pair of away matches, dropping a 5-0 decision to Prairie Heights on Monday, coming back on Tuesday evening to claim a 3-2 win over Lakeland.

In Monday’s contest against Prairie Heights, Churubusco’s Audrey Gier-cher fell 6-3, 6-1 to Andra Ledgerwood.
