Joe Yoder, 71

June 26, 2011

COLUMBIA CITY — Joe W. Yoder, 71, of Cape Coral, Fla., a retired Whitley County Consolidated School teacher, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 after battling cancer for nine months.
He was born Oct. 8, 1939 in Columbia City, the only child of Whitley County educators Harry T. and Hallie Z. White Yoder.
His formative years were spent on the Yoder farm in Washington Township.
He attended the Washington Center School and graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1957.

Mary Fry, 70

GOSHEN — Mary Pauline Fry, 70, of Ligonier died at 3 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 in I.U. Goshen Hospital.
She was born Nov. 30, 1940 in Noble County to Eli E. & Anna (Frey) Miller. She married Harvey Fry Oct. 16, 2002. Mary was a member the Old Order Amish Church and was a dedicated homemaker.

Bob Chiddister, 53

Bob C. Chiddister, 53, of Cromwell, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 15, 1957 in LaGrange to Bob W. and Deloris (McClure) Chiddister.
He is survived by two sons, Scott Chiddister of Albion, Travis Chiddister of Ligonier; three grandchildren, three sisters, Sally Wilson of Albion, Sherri Kilgore of Wolf Lake, and Shellie Koze of Ligonier. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob W. Chiddister.

Helen Wirges, 87

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Helen Louise (Friedman) Wirges, 87, of Nottawa, Mich., passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI.
She was born Aug. 30, 1923 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of the late Frank and Lena (Rhines) Friedman.
Helen attended St. Judes Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Ft. Wayne in 1941.
Following High School she joined the U.S. Navy, WAVES , and served in WWII.
On Feb. 8, 1947 in Fort Wayne, she married Harold E. Wirges, who preceded her in death in 1994.

James McGlocklin, 51

WOLF LAKE — James Alvin McGlocklin, 51, formerly of Wolf Lake, passed away Nov. 20, 2010 in Denver, Colo.
He was born April 28, 1959 in Elkhart, a son of Frances E. (Rarick) McGlocklin and the late James C. McGlocklin. He graduated from Central Noble High School.
In 1979, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served as a jet engine mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1983. His passions included working as a mechanic for race cars, drawing and tattooing.

Taylor McIntosh, 17 Mo.

Taylor Marie McIntosh, age 17 months, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at her home.
Born Jan. 5, 2010 in Warsaw, she was the daughter of Jesse Eugene McIntosh and Brittany Nicole McConnehey.

Robert Fessenden, 62

Robert Eugene Fessenden, 62, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:33 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.
Born June 1, 1949 in Oceanport, N.J., he was the son of Bradley Merton and Loella Blanche (Pressler) Fessenden.
He lived in the Larwill and Columbia City areas. He graduated from Larwill High School with the Class of 1967 and attended college for one year. On May 27, 1969 he began working at Dana Corporation, Fort Wayne retiring as a group leader June 1, 2000. He was a member of the VROC-Motorcycle Club.

COLUMBIA CITY — Blessed and amazed are emotions the Furthmiller family is feeling right now. At least that’s what parents Matt and Sarah are feeling.
The Furthmillers just brought home their second set of twins on May 4, 2011. Zachary and Morgan were welcomed home by brothers Jonathan and Zachary.

Phone scam artists continue to call

COLUMBIA CITY — When a man sporting what local resident Nancy Souers calls a “heavy Spanish accent” called her house Friday afternoon, he soon found out that his attempt to fleece her out of a quick buck would be one tough sell.
“He called my house quite a few times,” Souers said Friday afternoon. “My caller I.D. said it was a private caller. I hung up on him the first time because I couldn’t understand him.”

'Busco man flees hospital, caught by police

STAFF REPORT
FORT WAYNE — A Churubusco man is in jail today after fleeing from a Fort Wayne hospital Tuesday.
Brad McClure, 38, was heading to Allen County Lockup when his treatment at St. Joseph’s Hospital was concluded, according to police, but fled the hospital at about 9:17 a.m. instead.
