CAUTION AHEAD: Col. City trail section needs repair

June 15, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — A section of the Blue River Trail was washed away during recent rainfall.

Park Director Mark Green said repairs will be done this year, but until then he urges residents to use caution. “It’s dangerous,” he said.

The portion of the trail is between the YMCA and Whitley Street. It is located just past the lookout point over the river traveling toward Whitley Street from Morsches Park. “It’s fallen in at least a foot,” Green said.

While Green said the trail would get fixed soon, he is currently waiting on estimates for the project.

JOBS: New law could expand opportunities

June 15, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — In a down economy, many individuals, surprised at finding themselves jobless, have great difficulty securing a new place of employment.

For those who have a criminal conviction, it is even more difficult.
It was with this in mind that Indiana House Enrolled Act 1482, effective July 1 of this year, was signed into law. Under this code, individuals may now have criminal convictions removed from their record.

This provision is possible for all misdemeanor convictions and most felonies, with violent and sexual offenses excluded.
