WARSAW — Whitko’s boys soccer team picked up its first win of the season Saturday at Lakeland Christian Academy. The Wildcats took down Lakeland in a close, 3-2 match.

VEHICLE ROLLS: Man injured on U.S. 30

COLUMBIA CITY — A South Bend man was injured after rolling his vehicle on U.S. 30 Saturday night. Bradley Zalas, 34, was traveling east on U.S. 30 near Wolf Road when he ran off the roadway and into the median, according to Whitley County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cory Patrick.

'MODEST DISSENT': Lady ’Cats fall to West Noble, 4-2

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s girls soccer team lost a hard-fought match against the West Noble Lady Lancers Saturday in South Whitley, 4-2. The Lancers took a strong advantage in the first half of the game, leading by two goals over Whitko, shortly before Mady Overmeyer scored for the Wildcats with 7:13 remaining.

Alice D. Ogg Fernbaugh, 101

Alice D. Ogg Fernbaugh, 101, of Columbia City, died at 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since Jan. 2009.
She was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Allen County, a daughter of Clement and Maleva (Ambrose) Ritenour. After completing her education at Arcola High School, she moved to Fort Wayne.
She married Luther Ogg and they made their home in Fort Wayne. Mr. Ogg died in 1968.
On Nov. 22, 1973, she married Carl W. Fernbaugh. They made their home in South Bend until 1984, when they moved to Whitley County. Mr. Fernbaugh died in 1989.

CAUCUS SET FOR AUDITOR OFFICE: Honoring Banks with party

WHITLEY COUNTY — Details have been confirmed for a Republican caucus to fill the office of the Whitley County Auditor. As of Aug. 19, Whitley County Auditor Jennifer McGuire tendered a resignation taking effect immediately. Immediately following the caucus, the Whitley County Republican Party will honor State Sen. Jim Banks with a party. Banks has been called to active duty by the U.S. Navy and is heading to Afghanistan in the fall.

CHURUBUSCO — The Churubusco Lady Eagle varsity volleyball team played host to its annual invitational Saturday. Churubusco, playing in the Gold Pool, won its first match, but dropped the last two, failing to advance to the final round and finishing with a 1-2 record.
