Gerald Shank, 73

Gerald G. “Bud” Shank, 73, a resident of rural Huntertown, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Auburn July 23, 1937, a son of Glenn A. and Velma L. (Tooman) Shank, and as a young man served with the Air National Guard.

The surviving relatives include his wife, Sally; five children, Lenny G. Shank, Kerry J. Shank, Karyn Wolfe, Linda Faylor and Kevin Shank; a
sister, Virginia Harrod;

James Wayne Chaney, 53, of Harris Brake, Ark., passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010. He was born Dec. 7, 1956, in Goshen. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and friend to all who knew him.

Ruthanna Chamness, 88

October 13, 2010

Ruthanna G. Chamness, 88, of Warsaw, died at 7:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 at Grace Village, Winona Lake.

She was born September 7, 1922 in Paw Paw Township, Wabash County, a daughter of Fred Andrew and Hazel Marie (Oswalt) Gurtner. She married Robert Morris Chamness.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 832 E. Center Street, Warsaw with visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. The private burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash.

MaryNelle Good, 68

MaryNelle Good, 68, of Columbia City, died at 9:10 p.m. Oct. 11, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born April 4, 1942 in Rochester, she was a daughter of the late Charles D. and Maxine (Smythe) Powers.

Aldyth L. Cotner, 86

Aldyth L. Cotner, 86, of Woodburn, went to her heavenly home, Oct. 8, 2010 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, surrounded by her loving family. The Assumption, Ill. native was a daughter of the late David E. and Ola Cotner. She was a lifetime member and prayer warrior of Woodburn Missionary Church. She retired from General Electric in 1985 after 40 years of service. She was a member of the General Electric Pen-El, and Elex clubs.

Marcia Himes, 61

Marcia Mabel Himes, 61, of South Whitley, died at 12:12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at The Waters of Summit City in Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 7, 1949 in Huntington, she was a daughter of H. June and Ruby (Jenkins) Mishler.

She graduated from South Whitley High School with the Class of 1967. On June 20, 1969 she married Lee A. Himes in South Whitley. She worked for Gripco and Johnson Brothers in South Whitley, but her favorite career was that of homemaker, wife and mother. A resident of South Whitley for the majority of her lifetime, she moved to Fort Wayne in 2003.

Catherine Marie “Katie” Norris, 89, of South Whitley, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010 at the Peabody Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since July.

She was born Dec. 14, 1920 in Collamer, a daughter of John and Maude (Poland) Tschantz. Her formative years were spent in the Collamer area where she attended Collamer grade school until 6th grade, then South Whitley schools. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1940. She was the president of the student council.

Thomas Schinbeckler, 51

Thomas Edward Schinbeckler, DDS, 51, of Carmel, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 at his home. Born Dec. 17, 1958 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of Keith E. “Pickle” and JoAnne (Witte) Schinbeckler.

LaVera M. Harshbarger, 87, of Fishers and a former Columbia City resident passed away at The Hearth at Windermere, Fishers at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010. She was born Nov. 25, 1922 in Allen County, a daughter of William Roy and Ethel Nora (Smith) Harrison.

Samuel T. Kreider, 89

October 4, 2010

Samuel T. Kreider, 89, of rural South Whitley, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at the Peabody Home, North Manchester where he had been a resident since April 7.

He was born March 30, 1921 in Cleveland Township, a son of Riley and Tressa (Roberts) Kreider. A lifelong resident of Cleveland Township, he graduated from South Whitley High School.

On May 31, 1941 he was united in marriage to Rosalie Wendel.

He was inducted into the United States Army Nov. 17, 1942, serving in France; Leumberg, Germany; and Austria. His honorable discharge was Dec. 1, 1945.
