GIVING THANKS: Organizations assisting in Thanksgiving donations

WHITLEY COUNTY — As the fall season progresses and the date for Thanksgiving quickly approaches, the need for food donations is ever-present.

Local organizations, such as the Columbia City Rotary Club and the South Whitley Area Emergency Food Bank, are continuing their annual Thanksgiving charity collections.

Last Saturday, Dave and Tanya Warner, volunteers at the South Whitley Area Emergency Food Bank, collected frozen turkeys and other food items during the organization’s 3rd Annual Turkey Drop at Dollar General in South Whitley.

GAME TONIGHT: Whitko girls hoops hosts ’Busco

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko's girls basketball team is looking to redeem itself from its first loss (Friday, Columbia City) by beating Churubusco on its home court tonight, while the Lady Eagles are looking to hang on to their undefeated record (1-0).

Tip off is approximately 7:30 p.m. in South Whitley.

SCHEDULED DELAYS?: WCCS considers weekly 45-min. delays

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Consolidated Schools’ students may get an extra 45 minutes of sleep every week starting next school year.

On Monday the WCCS Board of School Trustees will vote to either adjust the schedule for next school year or leave it as-is.

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW: Winter weather expected this weekend

WHITLEY COUNTY — Snow is in the forecast for the weekend in Northeast Indiana.

As much as two inches of accumulation is possible by Sunday evening and early Monday morning, forecasters say.

Officials advise motorists to exercise caution as inclement weather rolls in, as typically there is a large increase in traffic accidents after the first substantial snow of the season.

The Columbia City Lady Eagles’ 37-34 home win over the Whitko Lady Wildcats Friday night fit the bill on all counts.
