HOMECOMING HERO: Baughman takes the night

SOUTH WHITLEY — Zach Baughman should have been on Cloud 9 Friday night.
Not long after being named Homecoming King, Baughman, a linebacker, grabbed an interception with the game tied and less than two minutes left on the clock and ran it 87 yards to score the game-winning touchdown.

EAGLES VICTORIOUS: Panthers fall to Churubusco

CHURUBUSCO — Coming off of a three-game losing streak, the Churubusco Eagles went into Friday night’s game against the Prairie Heights Panthers committed to win.
The Eagles rocketed onto the field with an impressive offensive press that earned them their second win of the season and a clear victory over Prairie Heights, 35-6.

Brinda Rowe, 64

September 19, 2014

Brinda F. Rowe, 64, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:36 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born March 14, 1950 in Sayersville, Ky., she was the daughter of Nollin and Helen (Rowe) Collins.
She graduated from Union City High School in Marshall, Mich. with the Class of 1968.

ROLLER COASTER: Lady Eagles fall in roller-coaster game

FORT WAYNE — When Columbia City Lady Eagle Volleyball Coach Trish Hinen talks about the roller coaster aspects of her team’s play, she is not talking a kiddie coaster, but a full-fledged, scream at the top of your lungs, drop-off-a-cliff fall.

The Lady Eagles, playing some of their best defensive volleyball against Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Homestead, had leads in every game, but runs by the host Lady Spartans sent the Lady Eagles home on the short end of a 3-0 match.

COLUMBIA CITY — For a second time in three weeks, Jana Schinbeckler, 23, won over Precinct Committeemen in a Republican Caucus for the Whitley County Auditor Office.

Thursday night, a caucus was held to fill the ballot vacancy for the Whitley County Auditor in the general election.
