COLUMBIA CITY â€” A man accused of pointing a firearm at two people will stand trial next month in Whitley County Superior Court.
Trent E. Vanderford, 25, of Columbia City, was arrested in May for pointing a firearm, a Class A misdemeanor.
He will have a jury trial Jan. 23, 2014, at 8 a.m. Jan 7, 2014, is the final date for a plea proposal to be accepted by the defense.

WARSAW â€” A Larwill man was arrested after running from Warsaw police Saturday.
Jeremy James King, 39, of Hammontree Street, Larwill, allegedly led police on a high-speed chase early Saturday morning.
The pursuit ended in a snowy crash after his Pontiac Firebird clipped a parked car and crashed into a snow bank on Anchorage Road, Warsaw.
MIDDLEBURY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s girls basketball team returned from its worst loss of the season Friday to Northridge to pick up two wins Saturday.
The Lady Eagles came out third in the Northridge Invitational Saturday, after an overtime, revenge win over East Noble and a victory over Andrean in the morning game.
One week prior, East Noble beat Columbia City by five points. The Lady Eagles sought and found revenge in the tourney, topping the Lady Knights 64-61 in overtime to win the third-place game at Northridge.
WHITLEY COUNTY â€” A southern Indiana woman died on her way to a family gathering Christmas Eve, after attempting to drive through a flooded roadway.
The elderly woman was found several hours later in the flood waters.
In Pike County, officials searched for a missing Illinois woman.
Whitkoâ€™s girls basketball team captured the Miami County Tournament Saturday. Team members include: Jennifer Reiff, Reghan Craig, Haley Yohe, Brianna Cumberland, Hanna Yohe, Aly Reiff, Kelly Reiff, Avaree Freel, Michelle Kelsey, Emily Day, Aly Nicodemus and Jordan Hall. Aly Reiff and Hall were named to the all-tournament team. Whitko beat North Miami in the semifinals, 52-45, and defeated Peru in the championship game, 67-26.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” A Pierceton man is facing a charge of voyeurism after an incident at a local tanning salon.
Kolten C. Krull, 20, was arrested Dec. 16 by the Columbia City Police Department. He pleaded not guilty in his first appearance at Whitley County Superior Court Dec. 23.
Voyeurism is a Class B misdemeanor.
MIDDLEBURYâ€” Northridgeâ€™s girls basketball team used a big first half lead to defeat Columbia City Friday.
The Lady Raiders won by a final margin of 62-32.
The game was the first in pool play for both teams in Northridgeâ€™s Tournament.
Columbia City (7-5) will take on Andrean tomorrow morning in the tournament.
Lady Eagle Head Coach Amy Shearer said a lack of effort from her team allowed too many easy baskets for Northridge.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s boys basketball team is off to a struggling start in the squadâ€™s holiday tournament.
The Eagles hosted the opening day of the Carroll Shootout, but home-court advantage wasnâ€™t enough for Columbia City, as the team fell 57-41 to Mooresville in the opening game at noon, and 62-30 to Munster in the late game Friday.
Columbia Cityâ€™s Justin Bachelder led the Eagles against Mooresville with 11 points.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” With the local elections of 2014 around the corner, individuals seeking to run for office will have the chance soon to make their candidacy official.
Whitley Countyâ€™s Clerk of Courts office will accept candidate filings beginning Jan. 8, 2014.
The registration window closes 30 days later â€” Feb. 7, 2014.
